No criminal charges will be brought against a Larimer County Sheriff’s deputy in connection to the death of a 28-year-old man who was fatally hit by a vehicle on Interstate 25 after the deputy shocked a man with a Taser.Brent Thompson (Provided by Rathod Mohamedbhai LLC)Brent Allen Thompson, of Loveland, died Feb. 18 during a traffic stop in which Deputy Lorenzo Lujan deployed his Taser on Thompson. The man collapsed into the northbound lane of I-25 and was hit by a passing motorist, according to a fatal use of force decision letter on the incident by the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office. Thompson had been stopped by Lujan on an I-25 off-ramp for expired registration tags on the vehicle he was driving, the document said. During the stop, Thompson was found to be driving the Ford Fusion despite his driver’s license having been revoked.Lujan was attempting to arrest Thompson when he took off running toward the highway, according to the decision letter. Authorities are asking for the public’s help finding a 13-year-old girl who was last seen in Monterey Park Friday.Lyrik Omar Amparano left her temporary home at 11 a.m., according to the Monterey Park Police Department.She told her social worker she was going to visit a cousin in an unknown location without permission.She was last seen on foot.Lyrik, who is male but identifies as female, suffers from bipolar disorder but does not take medication, police said.She was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt, gray sweat pants and black Vans. We headed north to the redwoods for the latest installment of the original cannabis-friendly music festival, Northern Nights.The festival’s geography plays a significant role in its place in the history of cannabis progress. The venue, Cook’s Campground, sits in the heart of the Emerald Triangle stretching across the county line separating Mendocino and Humboldt. In addition to all the fine local cannabis, attendees spend their weekend enjoying up-and-coming EDM acts across numerous stages, and floating on the river. This past weekend we got the chance to sit down with many of Northern Nights’ co-founders as they celebrated the festival’s 10th anniversary, including Andrew Blap, Peter Huson, Matty “Worldfamous” Wilson and Emily Wilson. Pedestrian Collision near Ventura Boulevard Left One KilledSHERMAN OAKS, CA (July 21, 2023) – Early Thursday morning, an auto pedestrian accident on 405 Freeway left one unidentified person dead.Authorities responded to reports of the collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, around 7:15 a.m. along the 405 Freeway, at Ventura Boulevard.Upon arrival, officers discovered the pedestrian was fatally injured, although they have yet to determine the circumstances that lead up to the collision.Furthermore, officials shut down a large portion of the roadway to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties, but have since been reopened.No further details regarding the 405 Freeway pedestrian accident have been released to the public. SAN JOSE — A Silicon Valley-based tech executive was charged with wire fraud this week for his alleged role in a scheme to divert funds and business from his employers to a business he had a controlling and financial interest in, according to federal prosecutors.In documents filed Wednesday, Mountain View resident Kevin Chao, 64, was accused of defrauding his employer of millions of dollars in business and software-licensing fees while serving as its global business director. Prosecutors said he directed those funds to Zillsoft, a business that he controlled, without first disclosing his interest in the company to his employers.According to the U.S. Justice Department, Chao had a “duty to of loyalty” and a “duty to disclose outside business” to his employers. It was a “ruff” day at the ballpark on Tuesday night as Oakland A’s fans brought their hounds to watch the game against the Boston Red Sox.Though loads of fun was had and many dog treats were consumed, the A’s lost to the Red Sox 3-0. From chihuahuas to Great Danes, there were canines of all shapes and sizes in the outfield plaza section, many wearing team jerseys or bandannas.As the Oakland A’s Brent Rooker hit a double in the fifth inning, Greg Farias, of Oakland, stood up and cheered with his 60-pound husky Sky in his arms.“We love all of the wonderful people and dogs, and just A’s fans in general; it’s really a community,” Farias said.The popular event takes place each Tuesday home game throughout the season.
