Sen. Menendez tells Senate colleagues he won’t resign By Mary Clare Jalonick | Associated PressWASHINGTON — New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez remained defiant in the face of federal bribery charges on Thursday, telling a room full of his Senate Democratic colleagues that he has no plans to resign.Speaking behind closed doors at the Capitol, Menendez echoed his previous public statements in response to last week’s indictment, according to a person who attended the private luncheon and requested anonymity to discuss it. Menendez has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and pledged that he will beat the charges that he worked to secretly advance Egyptian interests and pressured prosecutors to help his friends.More than half of Democratic senators have said Menendez should step down. But none of them asked questions after he spoke and vowed to remain in office, according to several senators leaving the meeting. But Menendez’s remarks also appeared to win him no new allies, further isolating the New Jersey senator as his colleagues and Dem...

NWS issues winter advisory for parts of Central California FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Fall may be just beginning but winter is trying to move in early in parts of Central California. National Weather Service (NWS) Sacramento says there is some potential for snow accumulations, mainly in far southeastern Tuolumne County, near Yosemite National Park, for Friday evening through Saturday evening. KSEE24 Meteorologist Reuben Contreras also added that it's not too unusual to have snow this early in the season - but the snowfall projections are. Contreras says the highest elevations of the Sierra could pick up a foot of snow, but that snow level would be around 8,000 feet, and snowfall will be just one to two inches there. "We do have a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for the Sierra this weekend but it's not the earliest one issued but it is up there," says Contreras.NWS Hanford issued the Winter Weather Advisory around 1 p.m. Thursday saying it's now in effect for portions of the Sierra Nevada above 8,000 feet from Yosemite National Park to S...

Fifth-ranked Reading nips ninth-ranked Winchester in field hockey thriller WINCHESTER – Natalie Wall still takes the blame for not clearing an expired-time defensive corner in a game from two years ago, which Watertown used to score and narrowly beat her Reading field hockey team.Thursday night, the No. 5 Rockets (9-0) got the job done this time against another one of their Middlesex League thorns, staving off two late corners to hold onto a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten No. 9 Winchester (6-1).Two of Reading goalie Myles Lakin’s seven saves came on a Red and Black corner in expired time, preserving the one-goal lead Danielle Bowers tipped in with 3:31 left to play as part of a massive win for the Rockets.“It was thrilling,” said Reading head coach Taylor Reynolds. “Winchester has always been a rival for us.
