HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans lost their pick in the fifth round of this year’s draft and must pay a $175,000 fine for a salary cap reporting violation involving Deshaun Watson, the NFL announced Thursday.A review by the league determined the Texans provided their then-quarterback Watson with undisclosed compensation in the form of a membership at an alternate athletic facility in 2020. Clubs must report any player compensation or benefit as part of the salary cap requirements in the collective bargaining agreement. Watson spent his first five seasons with the Texans before being traded to the Browns a year ago. He didn’t play for the Texans in the 2021 season, sitting out following a trade request and after sexual misconduct allegations during massage sessions made by two dozen women. He served an 11-game suspension this season due to those allegations and has settled 23 civil lawsuits. Thursday’s discipline against the Texans leaves the team with 10 picks in the upcoming draft...

GENEVA (AP) — FIFA wants full stoppage time added even in blowouts though its refereeing chief said Thursday a “mercy rule” that baseball uses at some levels could be debated in the future to end games at 90 minutes.Liverpool’s 7-0 rout of Manchester United on Sunday had only three minutes added at the end despite six-second-half goals, FIFA head of refereeing Pierluigi Collina told reporters in a briefing. The 2022 World Cup in Qatar showcased a push by FIFA and Collina to give fans more entertainment by having referees add accurate amounts for stoppages such as goal celebrations, substitutions, injuries and time-wasting.It led to so-called 100-minute games and meant Spain’s 7-0 rout of Costa Rica in the group stage had eight minutes of added time, Collina said. It let Álvaro Morata score the seventh goal.Though Morata’s goal was not crucial in the final Group E standings, Spain did advance ahead of Germany on the tiebreaker of goal difference.“In some competitions the goal differen...

Nice Friday, then watching two storms

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 16:45:27 GMT

7Weather – Not too bad out there today! We saw a lot of blue sky for a good chunk of the day. With the help of the March sun angle, temperatures rebounded to the upper 40s and some spots hit 50°.It’s been a windy week! Luckily, the wind will continue to diminish tonight. Light wind along with a few clouds overnight should allow temperatures to drop into the upper 20s and near 30° along the coast. Tomorrow morning we should get a few hours of bright sunshine, before mid and high level clouds take over. Highs rebound to the upper 40s/near 50° for a lot of us. There will be a light, onshore breeze keeping it cooler on the coast. We’ve been looking to our east for incoming cloud cover and any spot showers this week. Late tomorrow night, we turn to our west. An area of low pressure will form through the Ohio Valley and the center of it will track south of us. With this track, impacts will be minimal for us. Snow showers move in late Friday/early Saturday morning. Accumul...

French bulldog has eyes for actor Henry Cavill

A French bulldog named Rory apparently has eyes for a famous British actor. Rory’s owner has shared the love affair on social media, explaining her dog started staring at the TV while the Netflix series “The Witcher” was playing. Rory could not look away from one of the show’s actors — Henry Cavill. Rory was again smitten when Cavill appeared on screen as Superman. “If he comes on the screen and she hears his voice, she will wake up out of a deep sleep and pop up and look for him,” owner Heather Land said in a recent interview. Land dressed Rory up as Geralt from “The Witcher” for Halloween. Soon, TikTok fans were sending Cavill merchandise, and a shrine was born. That shrine now contains everything from pillows to figurines and candles. See updates on Rory here.
